Small and Diverse Business Certifications

MIT’s preferred method of verifying annual representations and certifications is through a city, state, or federal processes and systems. MIT uses these certifications to ensure that our sponsored funds are in compliance and also as a way to identify, verify, and analyze how much we spend with small and diverse businesses.

What Certifications Does MIT Recognize?

  • Small business (as defined by the Small Business Administration)
  • Socially/economically disadvantaged business (SDB)
  • Minority business enterprise (MBE)
  • Woman-owned (WBE)
  • Veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned (VBE and SDBE)
  • LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and others) owned (LGBTBE)
  • Ownership by persons with disabilities (DBE)
  • Located in a HUBZone 
  • Designated 8(a)
