Doing Business with MIT
Purchasing at MIT is decentralized, as departments, labs, centers, or institutes (DLCIs) make their purchasing decisions at the departmental or local level. Suppliers may be become an MIT supplier though a request from a DLCI to do business with them or following the completion of a competitive solicitation process. Suppliers are onboarded through MIT’s supplier portal, powered by Coupa.
What Is a Preferred Supplier?
Preferred Suppliers provide goods or services in a collection of commodity areas that are managed by VPF Strategic Sourcing. Preferred Suppliers have strategically sourced, centrally negotiated contracts in place with MIT that comply with Institute requirements, terms, and conditions.
The process to be invited to bid to become a Preferred Supplier includes an internal analysis of spending levels, transaction volume, and established spending across multiple DLCIs. MIT is also committed to supporting local, small, diverse, and sustainable businesses in these processes.
