Paying Government Visa Fees

To sponsor non-U.S. students or employees, you may need to make payments to the U.S. government for visa fees.

Understand the Requirements

If your department is sponsoring a non-U.S. student or employee, be sure to research the visa requirements and prepare accordingly. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) charges fees for issuing visas, including an application, an anti-fraud fee, and a processing fee. The DHS requires separate checks for each fee, so you will need to submit three different RFPs to receive the checks.

Submit an RFP

Go to the Reimbursements link from Atlas to complete the online RFP form. Search Non-MIT Payee “Department of Homeland Security” and select the address you want the check to be made out to.

Be sure to provide an explanation for the request (e.g., H1B visa application processing fee for John Doe). Use G/L 421318 (Fees – Government). In the Notes to Central Office field, provide a name and contact information for check mailing or pickup.
